You don’t need a dramatic announcement to stop doing something. Just stop.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
The announcement is often a way of asking permission, or of making a decision feel big enough to be real. It also hands everybody a chance to weigh in before you have started. Leaving the group chat, quitting the habit, dropping the running joke that stopped being funny: all of it works without a statement. Stopping and explaining are two separate jobs, and only the first is required.
Choose one thing you have been meaning to drop. Drop it this week with no post and no speech. The only person who needs telling is whoever is affected by the logistics, and one sentence covers that.
What could you simply stop doing without telling anyone?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
