Saying “that’s not something I’m comfortable with” doesn’t need a follow-up paragraph.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
The paragraph after a refusal is where a clear answer turns back into a negotiation. Explaining hands over material, and material can be countered, reframed, or whittled down. It also signals something you did not mean to signal, which is that you are still looking for approval before the no is allowed to count. A short answer is complete because it asks for nothing.
Say the sentence and stop. Count to five in your head and let the quiet do the rest. If pressed, repeat the same words rather than finding new ones, since new words give somebody else a place to push.
Where do you over-explain a refusal that would stand on its own?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
