Being the go-to person for favors is a compliment until it turns into a full-time job.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Early on it is a genuine compliment, because it means people have worked out that you follow through. The trouble is that a reputation attracts volume, and volume does not care how much time you have. Each request is small and reasonable by itself, which is why there is never an obvious place to start declining, and why the load turns into a job nobody hired you for.
Set a rough budget before the week starts: two favors, not nine. Deciding in advance is far easier than deciding under a hopeful face. When it is spent, offer a day next week instead.
How many favours a week are now simply expected of you?
