Peace isn’t the absence of people. It’s the absence of having to pretend around them.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Being around people is not what costs you. Pretending is. You can sit in a loud kitchen with five people and be completely at rest, and you can be alone and still tense from an afternoon of performing. What drains you is maintaining a version of yourself, and that work carries on whether or not the room is friendly.
Work out which rooms require it. Then move a little more of your week toward the ones that do not, instead of trying to make a performance room comfortable. One evening with somebody you never have to manage is worth several of the other kind.
Around which people do you stop performing entirely?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
