A forest does not need every tree to be tallest.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

The forest works because there are tall trees and small ones, dense undergrowth, fungi, fallen wood, and things that thrive only in shade. If every tree competed successfully for the canopy the whole system would collapse. Different positions are not different rankings.

In any group you belong to, ask what role you actually play rather than where you place. Some of the most necessary contributions are structurally not the tallest ones, and treating everything as a single competition wastes what people are good at.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where are you competing for a height nobody asked you to reach?
