Taste is partly the history of what you learned to notice.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

What you find beautiful is largely a record of your exposure. Every song you listened to closely, every room that stopped you, every conversation with someone who saw more than you did left a mark. Taste feels like an innate faculty and is closer to an accumulated education you did not know you were receiving.

That means it can be extended on purpose. Spend real time with something outside your range and let it be boring at first. What you can notice will grow, and with it the number of things in the world capable of giving you something.
