Stare at one pimple long enough and it becomes the only thing you think people see. It isn’t.

Attention magnifies whatever it lands on. Ten minutes in front of a mirror turns something nobody would notice into the centre of your face, because you have been studying it from six inches away while everybody else sees you from across a room. The feeling is real and the conclusion is wrong. Nobody else has your view.

Keep the mirror checks short and at arm’s length for a few days. When you feel certain people are looking, remember how much of that evidence came from standing very close to the glass.
