The coach on the sideline sees what the player in the middle of it can’t. That’s why you need people outside your head.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Being in the middle of something costs you the view of it. The player has the best information about what it feels like and the worst information about the shape of the game, and no amount of effort from inside fixes that, because it is a matter of where you are standing. Outside eyes are not smarter, they are just elsewhere.
So describe the thing out loud to somebody who is not in it. A friend, a parent, a teacher you trust, and the describing alone does half the work. Ask what they can see that you cannot, and do not argue with the answer straight away.
Who stands far enough outside your situation to see it clearly?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
