Two people can watch the same game and see two different fouls. Bias has a seat in every stand.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The useful half is not that other people are biased. It is that there is no seat in the ground without one, including yours, and the view from inside a bias feels exactly like the view from nowhere. Nobody experiences themselves as the partisan; that is what makes it work.

So start from the assumption that you have one and go looking for its shape. Which team, which friend, which kind of person gets the benefit of the doubt from you by default? Naming it does not remove it, and it does let you add a bit back on the other side when something matters.
