The edges of your vision are bad at detail. If something matters, turn your head and look at it straight.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Only a small patch at the centre of your eye sees fine detail. Everything else is a rough sketch your brain fills in, which means you can have something fully in view and still not have looked at it. Most of life works this way too: the thing you are half tracking, the friend you are vaguely aware is struggling, the subject you keep glancing at.

Turn your head towards one of those this week. Sit down with the subject you keep skimming. Ask the friend you have been half worried about a direct question. Half attention is good for scanning and finds almost nothing.
