You stop noticing good things once they become normal. Gratitude is just noticing on purpose.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Anything constant fades into the background, which is how good conditions turn invisible: the friends who are always there, the knee that does not hurt, a house with food in it. Nothing has gone wrong when that happens. Your attention is doing its default job of ignoring whatever has stopped changing. Gratitude is less a feeling than a deliberate correction to that.
Pick three ordinary things tonight that would be badly missed if they vanished and look straight at them. Say one of them to the person involved if there is one. Do that for a week and you will find you have been living better than you were reporting.
What could you deliberately notice today that you normally skip?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
