Taste is the ability to distinguish what impresses you from what stays with you.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Impressive and lasting are two different reactions, and it takes practice to feel the difference in the moment. Plenty of things dazzle and evaporate; some quiet thing you barely reacted to is still with you a year later. Taste is largely the ability to tell which is which while it is happening.

Keep an informal record of what stayed. Look back after a year at what you actually still think about. It will not match what you were excited by at the time, and that gap is the most useful teacher you have.
