People act differently when they know they’re being filmed. Including you. Notice that.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The presence of a camera changes behaviour, and knowing that it does makes no difference at all. Jokes get bigger, kindness gets more visible, and something subtly performed replaces whatever was happening before. The useful part of the thought is the last bit, which is that this applies to you, in moments you would describe as being yourself.

Put the camera away for one thing you care about this week. A good evening with friends, a game, a meal. Notice whether the room behaves differently. And when you do film something, ask yourself afterwards whether you were there for it or presenting it.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who do you become the second a camera is pointed your way?
