What you notice in a new city says a lot: food spots, shoe stores, basketball courts. Your eyes have a resume.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
You do not scan a new place neutrally. You scan it for your own interests, so the version of a city you come home with is a portrait of what you care about. Two people walk the same ten streets and one remembers courts while the other remembers bakeries. Attention has a history and it shows in what you bring back.
Read your own this week. On a route you do not know well, note the first five things you noticed and ask what they say about you. If the list is narrow, spend a day hunting for a category you normally skip past.
In a new place, what do your eyes find first?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
