Go looking for proof that people are fake and you’ll find it. Same goes for proof they’re kind.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Evidence is abundant in both directions, which means your search terms decide the result. Set out to confirm that nobody can be trusted and every ordinary thing reads as proof, and the conclusion feels earned because you really did find it. The same holds for generosity. What you end up believing about people partly reports on what you went looking for.

Run the other search this week. Keep a tally for three days of small decent things you see: somebody holding a door, covering a shift, waiting for a friend. Keep your judgement about anyone who has earned it, and notice how the list grows in whichever direction you point.
