The view from the back row is different but not worse. You see the whole stage.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Different seats hand you different information. From the back you lose the detail of faces and gain the shape of the whole thing: who is doing what, how the parts fit, where the room’s attention actually goes. Being away from the middle is a change of angle rather than a demotion, though it rarely feels that way when you did not choose the seat.

Next time you end up at the edge of something, use the position instead of resenting it. Spend a minute reading the whole room and find one thing the front row cannot see. Then say it out loud to somebody.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What can you see from where you sit that the front row cannot?
