Write one page nobody will ever read. Notice how much more honest you are when there’s no audience.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Writing changes the second somebody might read it. With a reader in mind you start arranging, softening and leaving things out, mostly without noticing, so what comes out is a presentable version of your thinking rather than the thinking itself. Take the reader away and the sentences get blunter and considerably more accurate.

Fill one page this week that you know for certain nobody will see, then compare how it sounds with anything you have posted lately. You do not have to keep it afterwards. The point is hearing how you talk when no one is listening.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would you be more honest on a page nobody reads?
