Before you post something, ask yourself who you’re hoping sees it. The answer is usually revealing.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Most posts have an audience of one or two people, even when they go out to everybody. Working out who you are picturing explains a great deal: whether you want reassurance, or to be envied, or to be noticed by one particular person, or simply to share something good. None of those is shameful, and knowing which one it is changes what you do next.

Before the next thing you post, ask who you are hoping sees it and answer honestly. If it is one person, consider telling them directly instead. If it is nobody in particular, post it and forget about it.
