Ask yourself what you’re good at that you’d never put on an application. Being a good listener counts.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Applications only have boxes for skills somebody decided to measure. Everything else gets left out: noticing when a friend has gone quiet, keeping a group calm, remembering what everybody forgot, being easy to work next to. Those abilities do real work in the world and most never appear on paper. Leaving them off a form is fine; leaving them out of your own estimate of yourself is not.
Write five of yours down tonight, in plain language and with no hedging. Ask one person who knows you well to add two more. Then find one place this week to use the strongest of them on purpose.
