Walk to the bookstore section you never visit and stay ten minutes. Learning what bores you is self-knowledge too.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Knowing where your interest stops is as useful as knowing where it starts, and much faster to establish. Ten minutes in a section you would never choose tells you whether the avoidance was a real preference or just unfamiliarity, and sometimes you are wrong about which. A clear no also saves you years of pretending to like things you think you should. Boredom is data rather than a failure of character.
Try it this week, in a shop or a library: pick the aisle you have walked past a hundred times. Give it ten minutes and one book, properly opened. Then say which it was, dull or merely unknown.
Which subject bores you, and are you sure you tried it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
