Being the new kid alone for a few weeks teaches you what you bring into a room before anyone knows your name.

With no history attached to you, people respond to whatever you actually give off: your face at the door, your voice at normal volume, whether you look up or down. At your old school, reputation did the introducing and hid all of that from you. A few weeks without it is uncomfortable and unusually informative.

Think about the first minute of walking into a new room and what you usually do with it. Change one small thing, like asking a question before you are asked one. That teaches you more than guessing ever will.
