Some of your favorite versions of yourself will only exist when nobody’s watching. That’s fine. They still count.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
There is a habit of thinking an experience only became real once somebody saw it. By that logic, the singing in the kitchen and the drawing nobody will see did not happen. They did happen, and they are often the parts of you that you like best, since nothing was being managed for an audience.
Let one good hour this week go undocumented on purpose. Dance badly, write the thing, be generous with no one watching. You will feel a small urge to show somebody, and letting it pass proves you were not doing it for them.
Which version of you appears only when nobody is around?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
