Boredom is what it feels like right before your own ideas show up. Don’t evict it so fast.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Boredom has a bad name because nobody stays in it long enough to see what comes next. It is not empty, it is the uncomfortable part of a process: attention runs out of outside material and starts making its own. Interrupt it at minute two and you never get what it was about to produce.
Let one stretch of it run all the way through this week. Fifteen minutes with no screen, no music, nothing to do, and do not treat the restlessness as a signal to go get something. Ideas arrive late in that window, which is why most people never meet theirs.
What arrived the last time you let boredom sit for a while?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
