The people you look up to are a rough sketch of who you’re trying to become. Pick them carefully.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Admiration quietly sets your direction, because you will drift toward the qualities you keep praising. Most people never choose that list on purpose. It gets assembled out of whoever was loudest and nearest, and then it steers for years.

Name the three or four people you actually look up to, and be honest rather than respectable about it. Then ask what you admire in each one, specifically: the work, the calm, the money, the attention. If the answer is attention, you can swap somebody out, and the list is far easier to change now than later.
