Notice who you are on vacation, away from your usual roles. That person might be closer to the real you.

At home you are a student, a sibling, a teammate, the one who always does a particular job. Those roles are real, but they come with a script, and after a while the script does the talking. Away from all of it the script loses its grip, and what is left is a little more yours.

You do not need a plane ticket to try this. A weekend with people who do not know your reputation does most of the same work. Pay attention to what you did with your time when nobody expected anything specific, and see whether any of it can come home with you.
