Taste is social long before it is personal. You heard a song in someone’s car, you watched the show everyone was quoting, and liking it was partly a way of being in the room. Some of it stuck for real reasons and some of it is a souvenir. Nothing is wrong with either, but it helps to know which is which.

Try one thing on your list alone, with nobody to report back to. If you still want it with no audience, it is yours. If it goes flat without the group, you have learned something cheap and useful about where your attention goes.
