People have stared into fires and thought things over for thousands of years. Sit by one and join them.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

A fire gives your eyes somewhere to rest without giving your mind anything to answer. That combination is unusual, and it is most of why thinking goes well in front of one. The company across all that time is not only a nice image. Whatever you are turning over has been turned over by somebody else in the same posture.

You can get a version of this without a campfire. A candle, a stove burner you are watching anyway, a window with weather in it. Sit for fifteen minutes with no screen and let the thing you have been avoiding come up on its own.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Would an hour by a fire help you think something through?
