Ship crews run drills when nothing’s wrong. Practice the emergency before it’s an emergency.

Under real pressure you do not rise to the occasion, you fall back on whatever is already automatic. Drills exist to put something useful in that slot ahead of time. Running them when everything is calm feels pointless, and the pointlessness is the whole design, because you want the practice to happen while mistakes cost nothing.
Find the thing you would handle badly if it happened tomorrow and rehearse it once. Say the hard sentence out loud in your room. Walk the route. Check that you actually know where the spare key or the backup file is.
Which emergency could you practice before it ever arrives?
