Good strategy has a backup plan you’re not ashamed of using.

A backup you would be embarrassed to switch to is not really a backup. When the moment comes, pride keeps you on the failing path a few weeks too long, which is exactly when a fallback is supposed to be working. The test is not whether the second option is as good as the first but whether you would actually take it.
Look at your plan B and ask how you would feel telling people you took it. If the answer is awful, you need a different one. Find something you could describe without flinching, even if it is less impressive, because that is the one that stays available.
Would you be embarrassed to take your second option?
