Accountability is taking your hands off the story and putting them back on the wheel.

Storytelling and steering use the same hands. As long as you are shaping the account of what happened, arranging the details so they sit right, you are not touching the actual direction of the thing. Accountability is the moment you let the account be imperfect and pick up the part you can steer.
In a situation you have been narrating a lot, stop mid-story and ask what the wheel would be. There is almost always one concrete action available. Take it before you finish deciding how the story should be told.
