Don’t confuse being secretive with being strategic. Strategic people still ask for help.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Keeping things to yourself can look like competence from the outside, so it is easy to mistake withholding for planning. They are unrelated. A good plan often depends on information you do not have, which means asking, and the people who are best at this ask more questions than anyone rather than fewer.

Pick the thing you have been quietly struggling with and tell one person about it this week. A teacher, a coworker, someone a year ahead. You can keep your plans to yourself and still say out loud that you are stuck on step three.
