In chess, the player with a plan beats the player with good moves and no plan.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Good individual moves can still add up to nothing. A plan is what makes each move point the same way, so small gains accumulate instead of cancelling each other out. Somebody reacting turn by turn has to be brilliant constantly to keep pace with a person who is simply building something. Over a long game, direction beats cleverness.

Pick an area where you have been purely reacting, maybe training or revision, and write what you are building toward in one sentence. Then check your next few choices against it. Whatever does not serve that direction can be dropped without guilt.
