“I don’t know yet” is an underrated answer. It keeps you from defending a position you never really chose.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Pressure to have an opinion makes people grab one at random, and once it is yours you start defending it as though you reasoned your way there. Then you are stuck arguing for a position you never actually picked. Saying you have not decided keeps the question open and keeps you honest about what you know.

Try the sentence somewhere low stakes this week, when someone asks what you think about a film or a plan. Notice it does not end the conversation. Then save it for the moments when you genuinely need more time.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which opinion are you defending that you never actually chose?
