Before you commit, ask: who benefits if I say yes right now?

The urgency attached to most offers belongs to someone else. If a decision genuinely has to happen in the next ten seconds, that is usually a fact about the person asking, not about the thing itself, and the rush is there to stop you from checking. Noticing who gains from your quick yes tells you most of what you need.
For anything bigger than lunch, say you will answer tomorrow, then actually answer. Watch what happens to the offer overnight. The ones that evaporate when you slow them down were never offers worth taking.
Who gains most from the yes someone is rushing you toward?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
