Your first job uniform will end up in a donation bag. The work ethic you built in it won’t.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Nearly everything about a first job is temporary: the uniform, the name badge, the particular smell of the back room, the manager whose name you will struggle to recall. What stays is the part you built while wearing it, which is knowing how to turn up on time, be tired and still do the job properly. Nobody can see that part, and it goes everywhere with you.
Treat the work as practice rather than a sentence. Do the boring tasks properly even when nobody checks. The habit outlasts the job by about fifty years.
What did a job you no longer hold teach you?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
