You’ll outgrow your favorite shoes, your favorite show and some of your friends. Outgrowing isn’t betraying. It’s just time.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Growing changes fit, and fit is not the same as loyalty. A friendship that worked while you both cared about the same thing can stop matching without either of you doing anything wrong, and the guilt people carry about that is usually misplaced. Drifting is not abandoning, and acting as though nothing has changed is its own sort of dishonesty.

Nothing has to be ended or announced. Spend your time with the people you actually want to see, keep the older friendships warm with the occasional message, and let the rest be what it is. Stay kind about the ones you have grown past.
