Maturity includes knowing when an explanation would improve nothing.

There are moments when explaining yourself improves nothing: the person will not hear it, the situation has moved on, the explanation only serves your comfort. Learning to leave a thing unexplained is difficult and it saves an enormous amount of pointless conflict.
Before you clarify, ask what would actually change if you did. If the answer is nothing except that you would feel better, consider whether you can carry the discomfort instead. Sometimes you can, and the silence turns out to be cheaper.
What do you keep explaining to someone who will not hear it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
