Your grandmother learned that recipe from someone who learned it from someone. You’re in a line of people feeding each other.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Nothing in a kitchen begins with the person cooking. The dish arrived down a chain of people who each adjusted it slightly and then fed somebody they loved, and you are standing at the current end of that chain rather than at the start of your own. Being part of a line is a good deal less lonely than being original.
Learn one dish properly from whoever in your family makes it, with the intention of passing it on. Find out where they got it from. Then cook it for somebody, because a recipe survives by being made and not by being filed.
