Someone in your family was the first to finish school, or move, or start over. You’re living in the space they cleared.

Opportunities usually arrive with somebody else’s risk behind them. A first move to a new country, a first diploma, a first decision to walk away from something bad: each was made with no proof it would work, and the result is the ordinary room you are standing in. Cleared ground looks like nothing much once it has been cleared.

Find out who the first one was in your family and what it cost them, while there are still people who remember. Then think about what you might be first at. Somebody further down the line will be standing in whatever space you clear.
