Your grandparents probably know how to do something with their hands that you don’t. Learn it from them, not from a video.

A video teaches the steps and a person teaches the corrections. Somebody standing beside you can see your grip is wrong before it hardens into a habit, and they know the detail that never makes it into any set of instructions. The asking does something else as well, which is handing an older person a reason to be the expert in the room.

Ask one of them to teach you something practical this month: fishing, sewing, a repair, whatever they are known for. Let them be slow about it. Being asked to teach is one of the more welcome things they will hear this year.
