Wearing your dad’s old jacket doesn’t make you him. Wearing his patience might.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Copying the surface of somebody is easy and achieves almost nothing. The jacket, the mannerism, the job title: those are costume. What actually resembles a person is how they handle a long line, a difficult child, a setback that is nobody’s fault, and that part has to be practised rather than put on.
Pick one quality in an adult you admire and name the specific behaviour underneath it. Then do that exact thing once this week, at a moment when it is inconvenient. Character gets assembled out of repeated small choices, not out of resemblance.
Which trait of a parent would you actually want to inherit?
