Forgiving someone doesn’t erase what happened. It just stops the past from charging you rent.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Letting go of a grudge is not the same as deciding something was acceptable. The event stays exactly as bad as it was. What changes is how much of your present attention it gets to occupy, because resentment is paid daily, by you, long after the other person stopped thinking about it.
Notice how many times one old incident runs through your head this week. Deciding to stop rehearsing it is allowed, even with no apology on offer.
What are you still paying for by refusing to forgive?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
