Gratitude is usually felt in silence and assumed to be obvious, so most people who changed somebody’s direction never find out that they did. The loop is broken by default. One short message closes it, and it lands harder than you would expect precisely because it so rarely arrives.

Email one teacher or coach this week and be specific about what they actually did. Three sentences is plenty, and being years late is fine.
