The older people who annoy you were once impatient teenagers rolling their eyes at their elders. The circle keeps turning.

Every generation is irritated by the one above it and then becomes it. The person lecturing you now was lectured and found it equally tedious, and in forty years somebody will find you slow and behind the times. Recognising the pattern takes some of the heat out of either side of it.

Next time an older person annoys you, ask what they were like at your age. The answer tends to ruin the argument in a useful way.
