Look at photos of your parents at your age. They had no idea what they were doing either, and they figured out a lot of it.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Your parents showed up in your life already assembled, so it is easy to assume the steadiness came standard. It did not. Whatever they know about work, money and handling a bad week got built after the age you are now, mostly by getting things wrong and adjusting. Their competence is evidence that competence is learnable, not proof that you were supposed to be born with it.
Find a photo of one of them from around seventeen and ask what was going on that year. Who were they worried about, what job did they hate. You are not looking for advice so much as proof that the gap closes.
Does it help to know your parents improvised too?
