Missing someone doesn’t mean you’re stuck. It means they took up real space. Let the space stay theirs a while.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Missing somebody is not a malfunction to be cleared up. The ache is in proportion to how much room that person took up, which makes it accurate rather than excessive, and nobody has to earn their way out of it on a schedule. Being slow with it is not the same as being stuck. The space can stay theirs for as long as it stays theirs.

If you are carrying this now, you might let the feeling exist without arguing with it. Saying their name out loud to one person who knew them can help. So can doing nothing about it for a while.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who took up enough space that you still feel it?
