If a parent taught you to drive, they sat in a passenger seat with no brake pedal and trusted you anyway.

GRATITUDE
Teaching somebody to drive means handing over control of your own safety. A parent in that seat has no pedals, no steering and no way to stop anything, and they did it anyway, repeatedly, with somebody who had never done it before. Whatever else is complicated between you, that happened. It is a fairly pure demonstration of trust.
If they taught you, thank them for that specific thing, which probably never got acknowledged. If they are teaching you now, make the job easier: no phone, no arguing in the car, say the manoeuvre out loud before you do it. Being easy to teach is its own kind of respect.
Who sat beside you while you learned something genuinely risky?
