Every family has a cousin who taught you something your parents never would. Thank them at the next reunion.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Families have gaps, and someone slightly older and slightly outside the parenting role tends to fill them. Usually it is a cousin, teaching you something practical or unsanctioned that no parent was ever going to cover. They did it casually and have no idea it stuck. That sort of teaching rarely gets acknowledged because it was never official.

Tell them at the next family thing, specifically, naming what they taught you. It will take thirty seconds and they will remember it. While you are there, work out which younger cousin is currently looking at you the same way.
