Getting trusted with the alarm code at work feels small. It’s somebody betting their job on you.

A four digit number does not feel like much when it is handed over in a hurry. What sits behind it is a manager who answers for the building, choosing to include you in the small group who can get in and out of it. If something goes wrong, the explanation becomes theirs. The casual way these things get given does not reflect what is actually being risked.
Treat the boring procedures exactly, especially when you are the last one there. Do not give the number to anybody, including a coworker who has forgotten theirs. If you ever make a mistake with it, say so before it is discovered.
What at work would cost your boss dearly if you slipped?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
