Coworkers trust the person who says “I’ll take the bathrooms” before anyone has to ask.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every shift has a job nobody wants, and a short silence while everybody waits to see who gets it. Taking the worst task without being assigned it ends that silence and it is noticed by everyone in the room. It reads as a willingness to carry a share without being managed into it, which is exactly what people are trying to work out about a new coworker.

Volunteer for the bad job once on your next shift and do it properly. Say it early, before anybody has to be assigned. Then let it go unmentioned, because claiming credit undoes most of what it bought you.
